I filmed my video for "Ultraviolet" on the 28th November 2015 according to the call sheet and plan I had produced. However, throughout the duration of filming, I had encountered multiple problems, which lowered the quality of my content.
The main issue I had when filming was that my tripod I tried to use was wonky and I wasn't able to straighten it out so that the frame was straight. This meant that it looked unprofessional and I would be unable to use the shot.
As a result of this, I had to use another tripod I had. This was a success for the pans and still shots. However, when I tried to move with the camera on the tripod, the shot was very shaky and wonky and did not look good, so I turned to holding the camera in my hands.
This initially worked for the tracking shots when I was following the actor. Yet when the camera was the actor following the camera, it was incredibly difficult to produce a shot that wasn't shaky and badly done.
This means that for a majority of the footage I obtained that day, it's shaky and wonky and looks unprofessional; with a few particular shots it is apparent that I am holding the camera and am taking steps since the camera moved with my footsteps. This disallowed for smooth shots and would make a low quality video.
Another issue I encountered was the weather; throughout the day, the sun would sporadically come out and disappear behind the clouds. This meant that for some of the shots, the exposure is very bad and you can't see the actors face while other shots aren't so bad. This also meant that the lighting wasn't the same throughout the video when I wanted it to remain roughly similar for the duration of the video.
Finally, when I watched back the footage, I found that there wasn't really any continuity to it and that it didn't really make sense. On paper, it seemed like a perfectly good idea that worked out but in reality, it was a bit muddled and this would have confused my target audience.
As a result of all of these issues I had encountered, I have decided to refilm my video with a different idea.
This idea consists of a girl playing her piano along to a song when, in the middle of the song, she receives a phone call from her boyfriend who calls to break up. She is heartbroken and realises that he has been cheating on his girlfriend with her. The video will end with her burning the only picture she has of them together and walking away from it.
This will be done at a cosy location with a homey feeling to it, including a spacious garden/green area for the video to end in.
The filming date for this idea will be Tuesday 3rd November - Wednesday 4th November 2015.
